Nasty Email
I've gotten some nasty virii via email lately... damn good thing I keep my email client updated and locked down...I got an .hta attachment, a couple of .exe's ... oddly, I never got these til I started posting comments on a few blogs... porn spam, morgage spam, penis enlargement spam, hell, I even get Nigerian "Help me steal some Government Money" spam on a regular basis... I like those... those folks are so sincere... I've been online with the same nom de plume for ten years... a few different providers but mikkidee all the same...
but virii? Not till recently...
So, when you get weird email, remember to ask, "What would mikkidee do?"
1 - If your email client supports a preview pane, disable it.
2 - Get an anti-virus program and keep the virus definition file up-to-date.
3 - No matter who they come from, do not open any attachment with the extension of .hta or .exe
4 - Before opening other attachments, make sure you know who they came from and that they meant send it to you.
5 - Scan your email with your AV program.
I am considering leaving a "honeypot" email address on my posts from this point forward... so if someone is harvesting email addresses from postings and sending nasty emails I can track them down.
I know what to do to folk that send virii when I find them... can you say felony?... Say hello to Agent Frank.
