Memories
Memories
My mother is the original pack rat. The down side to this is that my sis & I know when both our parents pass, we will have to just back a dump truck up to the house & start filling it with junk destined for the dump. The up side is that there are treasures hidden in all the trash. Yesterday, my daughter & I were on a mission to see if my treasured copy of The Night Before Christmas could be found. I was ecstatic when we did indeed find it. Ever since I was a very small child, I loved that book. My mother says when I was 2, I had memorized every page & would recite the entire poem, turning the pages, pretending I could read. (She also says I was reading by the time I was 4. Guess all that pretending paid off, though I also have faint memories of my mother teaching me how to sound out difficult words.)The book had held up pretty well, considering it's over 40 years old, it was my favorite book, and my kids also grew up with it. Now it's time to share it with my grandson.
