Over the River

Over the River

And through the woods, to my parents' house we go. Literally. The drive is a real bitch kitty. Mostly two lane blacktop from here to Marshall, then a long drive down a narrow dirt road across creeks with low-water bridges. I remember years ago taking my step-granddaughter from a former marriage there when she was about 3. We're still several miles from the house when this little voice pipes up from the backseat, "Granny Reet, are we in the boonies yet?" I stifle my giggles long enough to reply, "Yes, sweetie, we are." "I thought so," she said. "It sure looked like the boonies to me."
