Meteor Shower

Meteor Shower

It was worth getting up early, one of the better meteor shows I've seen in a long while. Saw bunches of streaking stars even with all the city lights and a nearly full moon. One in particular was spectacular...with a huge glowing blue-green tail which appeared to billow smoke and ended in a large silent explosion of light.

It wasn't nearly as cool as the one in 1966. I remember it clearly. My dad had gone out to bring in firewood in the wee hours of the morning and was so amazed he came in & woke us all up. My sister & I were bundled up & rushed outside to see. We lived way out in the sticks, so no light pollution from street lights or anything. Just the dark sky, raining stars seemingly by the thousands. The sky was filled with constant brillant streaks of light showering down from the heavens. I was awe-stricken, and being only 6, a little bit spooked by it all. We all watched in silence for the longest time until it finally began to die down and there was only the occasional flash here and there. Truly one of the more amazing things I've seen.
