A Voice From the Past

A Voice From the Past

I had signed up on that Classmates thing months ago, trying to track down a couple of my best friends from back in the day. I'd found one pretty quickly, and we've had great fun catching up. She & I had kept in touch sporadically over the years at least. But I had been unsuccessful in finding the other member of our "Terrible Trio" as we were know in high school. She'd moved out East & really never looked back, for good reasons of her own. Out of the blue today, I just got an e-mail from her. I'm so excited! She & I have been best friends since we met in 1966 in kindergarten.

Her e-mail brought back so many memories. Good Lord, we were wild kids! What one of us couldn't think of to get into, one of the other two would. I had a '66 Mustang in high school, and we used to regularly cut school after lunch in the spring & head to the river, portable 8-track player & suntan oil in hand. (One of the tamer things we did.) If our parents knew half of what we did, they would've killed us. We most always had our stories straight, though, and only got busted once for skipping school. (A minor incident, compared for example to the frat party two of us went to & got totally bombed on strawberry daquiris and uh, well, certain combustible plant matter.) My new project is to get us all together sometime soon and talk about the good old days and what's happened since.

That's the best thing about old friends, isn't it? They know where all the bodies are buried (and love you anyway), but can't tell anyone cuz they helped you bury them.
