Dinner Plans
I had a nice surprise while I've been out running errands & such today. I got a call from my former stepdaughter in Little Rock, who is coming to town this afternoon & wanted to get together. We haven't seen each other in a while...she has two girls and something always seems to come up when we make plans. So I hope she can make it this time. I miss her.
It's always difficult to explain our relationship to others...but she & I decided when her dad & I got divorced that it didn't mean she & I were divorcing each other. It really didn't make much difference in our relationship, we've always been very close even though we don't get to see each other much now that she's all grown-up. But we've never found a good name for it. "Former stepdaughter/stepmom" just doesn't do it. The closest we've found is "quasi-adopted", which just sounds weird.
Oh well, just another one of my youngun's I guess.

"Daughter" and "Mom" sound fairly good to me. A stepdaughter is still a daughter.
How about "Dear"?

It was sure good to spend some time with her & her girls, whatever she is. I miss her terribly.

That is great that you continued your relationship. I sometimes wonder how some of my ex-steps are doing now.
