Memories

AMCGLTD has a interesting post about the five worst wines in the world...brings back a lot of memories. No, I didn't used to be a wino. My ex and I ran a liquor store for the 13 yrs. we were married. We carried 4 out of those 5 wines...the best seller by far was the "Mad Dog" 20/20.

Our customers had the funniest nicknames for stuff. Camel cigarettes were called "humps", as in "Give me a pack o' humps". One guy always called Fighting Cock whiskey "Fighting Rooster" because he didn't want to say cock with a lady present. I've heard more mispronounciations of Hiriam Walker than I can count...my all-time favorite is "Hymen Walker." And I'm sure you can imagine how badly a drunken hillbilly could mangle "Blue Curacao". "Caracas" is as close as anyone ever got.

It was really hard not to burst out laughing sometimes. And then there was this one poor guy....a really nice guy who stuttered quite badly. The problem? He always asked for a pint of A & A (Ancient Age whiskey).

That was painful.

Umm . . . Rita, your mouseovers make it a bit more difficult to click the link if you aren't actually "on" the link when you click it. If you happen to mouseover the last or first letter, the mouseover takes the link away before you click. Just thought you'd like to know.

It shouldn't do that.

*sigh*

What browser are you using?

My dear departed Father was partial to Mattingly & Moore. Gak. "A pint of M&M," he'd order. At the drive-up window. South Dakota allows for drive-up service at the liquor stores.

I suspect it was real rotgut. I never had any of it. The only whiskey I was ever able to tolerate was Jeremiah Weed.

Oddly enough, I.E.6. It's just that your links were going from bold to normal. This causes the text to shrink, thus moving the first and last letters. Really, all you had to do was to make your a:hover [font-weight: bold].

That's just it, none of the links were being told to be bold....all the font weights were set to normal. Very strange.

So, does the new one still do that? Cuz I kinda like it.

Nope. Actually, I realllllly like this one. Odd, isn't it?

Yay! Problem solved.

It does grow on you don't it? I can read it more easily than the old one too...less eyestrain on the bifocals.
