Another Good Idea

Adam's got a good idea also.

Here's the idea--We organize a national blogger meet. It grows into a national bloggers association. We begin having meetings each year and grow in our own right, eventually becoming an integral portion of the mainstream media by doing what we do best--blogging.

I am serious about forming our own organization to look after our interests, eventually even being able to protect our members and medium through legal action if need be. However, to pull together such an organization requires more than just me and my idea. It will necessitate the support and participation of other bloggers and blog readers.

He's looking for volunteers and input, so go put in your two cents' worth or volunteer your expertise.

Oh, Rita.

It is a beautiful dream. But can it be done? Can a whole mess of folks as opinionated and argumentative as us bloggers actually cooperate long enough to make a structure, elect officers and get organized? How long would it take before factions formed and then we have the right-wing blog convention and the left-wing blogger convention?

I cautiously place my heart next to your in hoping that this dream can be realized. A blogging convention would be great.

Hmmmmmmmm.

If anyone can do it, Adam can. Though I have to admit my first reaction was that it sounded a whole lot like trying to herd cats.

Sure would be fun though, wouldn't it?

You don't know that your view isn't from the bottom looking up? As the producers of these remarkable pages you probably don't have time to realize that 1) you already are established; 2) you form the most viable communication medium currently available (from both consumer and technology points or view); and 3) you are a mix of the most impressive intelligences that have ever emerged from our culture. I am elated as I watch this information exchange evolve and fear that presenting yourselves formally in the mainstream media arena, and following the protocols that have led them into insignificance, would be equal to a self-inflicted wound. It isn't evident yet, but in a short period of time you have smashed a paralyzed paradigm with something that will dwarf what it was. Ignore them and soon they will come to you (the Rush Limbaugh comments didn't spring from nothing), then ignore them some more until they fade into the past (or take prisoners), but keep doing what you do.

Excellent points, Kenneth. I do realize the potential of this medium, and just how earth-shattering it really is. That's one of the reasons I'm involved.

I think Adam does also, and I think that's why he sees the need for us to become better organized. We're a huge threat to the established media, and some of them are starting to wake up & realize this. A good basic understanding of copyright law is something that we're all going to need soon, I suspect.

I agree, we've some of the best minds in the world involved. Therefore, there's no reason to think that we can't avoid some of the mistakes mainstream media has made.

I hope.
