Recognize Any Names?
Scroll down to the bottom of the page here for the list of House representatives who voted against the DoNotCall list. I didn't recognize any of the names, but they were:
- Bishop (UT)
- Ryan (OH)
- Terry
- Flake
- Strickland
- Paul
- Tancred
There were 9 representatives missing/not voting, include Gephardt. Doesn't he hold some record for the most votes missed or something like that?
Anyway, I would be interested to know why these particular representatives voted against this.
Anyone have an idea?

Gephart is furiously scouring the nation for a willing eyebrow donor.

I searched through the names on the list and aside from Dr. Ron Paul of Texas, they just seem to be young, and new, or fairly new to the position.
1. Rob Bishop, Republican representing Utah's 1st Congressional District. First term in 2003. Committees - 1) Armed Services, 2) Resources, and 3) Sciences. Stated top priority as tax relief. In NewNews by Brigham Young University, Mr. Bishop is quoted as stating the reason he voted no is because "A do not call list is something states can do and are doing," Bishop said. "I felt it was stupid to spend millions of dollars on programs states and individuals can do themselves."
2. Jeff Flake, Republican representing Arizona's 6th Congressional District. Second term. Committees - 1) Judiciary, 2) International Relations, 3) Resources. Stated that his top priority is tax relief. Can't find a statement from him, but he doesn't seem to be very popular with some of the Arizona news media.
3. Ron Paul, Republican representing Texas's 14th Congressional District. Subject seemed too well integrated to state a top priority but has an essay about the tyranny of paper money linked to his web pages. Also has a list of Ron Paul Freedom Principles, including "The lives and actions of people are their own responsibility, not the Government's". And, "Government exists to protect liberty, not redistribute wealth or grant special privileges". No specific statement about do not call list.
4. Tim Ryan, Democrat representing Ohio's 17th Congressional District. In January of 2003 he was sworn in as the youngest Democratic member of the 108th Congress. Committees - 1) Education and the Workforce, 2) Armed Services, and 3) Veterans Affairs. No specific statement found but the State of Ohio seems to be creating its own do not call list.
5. Ted Strickland, Democrat representing Ohio's 17th Congressional District. Fifth term. Committees - 1) Energy and Commerce, and 2) Veterans Affairs. No specific statement found but again, the State of Ohio list might apply.
6. Lee Terry, Republican representing Nebraska's 2nd Congressional District. Began serving in 1998. No committee information, but a stated goal is to head off insolvency for the medicare program. He has worked for funding to help prosecute child abusers, keep more farmland in production, and has "demanded accountability from Head Start." He also had a good 9/23/03 statement supporting President Bush's address to the U.N., but no statement found regarding his vote on the do not call list.
7. Tom Tancredo, a third term Republican representing Colorado's 6th Congressional District. His concerns are Immigration Reform, Education Reform, Tax Reform, and National Security. Mr. Tancredo's statements about illegal aliens seem to be the only things quoted by anyone.
