I don't think it's the first round in internet-related patent litigation. Previously, there was Amazon.com/Barnes & Noble litigation (one click shopping), as well as the Bidder's Edge/eBay case (use of computer resources by web crawlers as trespass to chattel).
And then there are numerous trademark cases involving domain names.
I think this is more a continuance of a trend rather than the start of one. (Though the thought of an spaghetti Western featuring lawyers amuses the hell out of me.)
