Odd Activity

I've found something odd in my activity log....3 separate searches for the term "search", apparently coming from an IP in Italy. Seems like I vaguely remember that being a way to hack a webpage, though I haven't been able to track that down so far.

Anyone have any ideas what might be going on?

I've had that happen several times also. I don't know about hacking, but one spammer posted his spam with all kinds of sex links in the comment to my blog post about searching my blog vs. searching the rest of my website. I thought it was odd that someone searched for that. I thought maybe the comments for that post got spammed because someone thought it would get more search engine hits there.

It might be a spammer. Just in case, you may want to get rid of and/or install the fix for your "mt-send-entry.cgi" file -- that's a script used to post entries to your weblog via email. Spammers have found a way to use it to send spam that looks like it's coming from your server. (Source: here.) I deleted mine, since I don't use it. I hope this doesn't mean that spammer are now going to use the MT search script to do something evil.
