A-Shopping We Will Go

Since I don't have to work until 5 this evening (how lucky is that!), we're thinking of starting our Christmas shopping today....though since I'm still battling the cold/flu/whateverthehellthisis and Mike's down with it too, I'm not sure how long we'll last in the crowded stores. Two cranky sick people who hate crowds trying to shop in overly crowded stores is prolly not a good combination.

I'm at a complete loss as to what to get my son this year....and his 25th birthday is before Christmas so I have that to shop for as well. It has to be something that I can mail overseas, since he won't be home for Christmas this year. Maybe a new Gameboy & some games? He likes sci-fi, so I'll be looking for books as well. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

And I really wish they'd stop playing that damn song "I'll Be Home For Christmas". It's really embarrassing to burst into tears at work.

Everyone's sick. Have you and Mike been playing Twister with Andy and Natalie?

Nope. We caught this from WildChild. Damn kids. I don't know whether it's just a really bad cold or the flu, but it's highly contagious. Just about everyone around here has it.

We were infected by my ten-year-old who barely had a sniffle, then left to visit her dad until Sunday. Of course, Andy and I were hit with the motherlode of all sickness while our little Typhoid Mary is out galavanting around Chicagoland. Little monster.

I think a Gameboy is a good idea - and you'll save a ton on shipping since they're so small and you'll never be short of accessories and games to buy. (There's a way to hook it up to a Game Cube, too, and play all of your Gameboy games on the television.) The only thing to consider is the battery factor - those things suck up a lot of juice so you may want to ask how readily-available replacement batteries are where he is, and maybe consider sending over a bulk supply from Sam's or something.

We're like you and Mike in that we absolutely hate crowds so my policy is that any gift I haven't bought by now will be purchased in the wee hours of the morning from Wal-Mart. It's great around three a.m. - nothing but insomniacs and drunks trying to get out of the cold. Very peaceful.

He's in Okinawa, so batteries shouldn't be a problem. I think we can get an AC adapter for it also. He had one a couple of years ago, but it got broken during his travels. Of course, the child could tear up an anvil, so I doubt this one will last very long either.

Jeez, Kohl's was a nightmare. Absolutely packed. We're gonna do the late night Wal-mart thing either tonight or tomorrow night after I get off work at 10 pm. That should take care of most of our Christmas shopping. I hope.

If he has a dvd player, the first (only) season of "Firefly" is out now. Being a sci-fi freak myself, I know I'd love it. Or the book "Quicksilver" by Neal Stephenson.

You might also get him some Neil Gaiman as well, if he doesn't have any. Try "American Gods" or "Good Omens" (written with Terry Pratchett.)
