Shop 'Til You're Dropped

I heard a few tales of unmitigated rudeness during yesterday morning's rush for bargains from my customers last night, but this, from Orange City, Florida, takes the cake.

A mob of shoppers rushing for a sale on DVD players trampled the first woman in line and knocked her unconscious as they scrambled for the shelves at a Wal-Mart Supercenter.

As my beloved granny would say, they Lord have mercy. Ain't you people had no better raisin'? Talk about your herd mentality. I've seen cows that had better manners.

Sheesh.

Eek. That's not too far from where I live. I guess it's a good thing I was stuck at home yesterday.

Sounds like it. After hearing all the tales from my customers about the crowds around here, I'm glad we stayed home Friday morning too. No one got trampled, but from all accounts it was a madhouse everywhere.

I worked at the Hallmark in my hometown when I was in high school. We sold those wretched Beanie Babies. People would call everyday and stake out the store for the arrival of the truck. Well, when they would arrive, we would have to take them to the back and count/inventory them. When I would leave the back room to put them out (they would always have me do it because all the rest of the ladies were on the older side and were scared), they would totally attack me. One woman pushed me down and I dropped the box. I told her what a psycho she was. :)

There were sure some avid Beanie Baby collectors weren't there? People just kill me about that kind of thing. They're freaking toys, not status symbols. Most of the time the kid's just gonna play with it for about 5 minutes, then toss it aside & play with the box for months.
