In Their Dreams
The NYTimes confidently implies that Saddam has had nothing to do with the repeated attacks in Iraq.
Saddam Hussein has denied playing any direct role in commanding Iraqi insurgents or in planning attacks after he went into hiding, and he said his government possessed no prohibited weapons, United States government officials said Monday.
Well we can just all go home then. Heavens knows Saddam wouldn't lie.
Unfortunately for the Times, documents found with Saddam imply otherwise.
U.S. officials said that crucial documents, found in the Butcher of Baghdad's briefcase, included a list of six names, including two financiers, two bomb makers, and the two arrested resistance leaders, described as distant relatives of Saddam.
The documents also detailed the structure and financing of eight to 12 vicious terror cells around Baghdad - of which the U.S. had known little.
The documents also show that Saddam was in "regular contact" with those leaders, as well as Izzat Ibrahim al Duri, suspected leader of the terror cells.
It's downright delusional to think Saddam gave up all hopes of power and has just been hiding out quietly over the last 8 months. And the discovered documents, which the Times conveniently ignores, are just the tip of the iceberg showing proof of his involvement.
Of course, the Times has never been one to let the facts interfere with their dreams.
