Who Is This Guy?

I know his name is R. Emmett Tyrrell, Jr., but who is he? And more importantly, what is he smoking?

Today Dr. Howard Dean aspires to the Oval Office. If he has his way, he will be the first Franklin Delano Roosevelt of the 21st century. He will face our era's Herbert Hoover: a Texas Hoover who has mired the country in economic gloom, who has failed to confront tyrants from afar.

Uh. Ok. Yeah. As soon as I finish posting this, we're gonna finish loading up the truck, strap Granny in her rocker on the top and head out West. Hear they're paying hard cash for fruit pickers out in Californey. A-course we'll have to take plenty of ammo to ward off them there suey-cide bombers, but Pa's got his ol' squirrel rifle all oiled up and....hey wait a minute. We both have jobs. Unemployment rate 'round here is holding at a right steady 2% or so. Git down offen that truck Granny. We ain't a-goin' nowhere.

Oh here's his claim to fame. He once had a series of debates with Dr. Dean on a talk show in Montreal. And now everyone wants his take.

Just as a priest must not betray what he hears in a confessional, I have a feeling I should not betray the raw and primitive Dr. Howard Dean who was presented to me in Montreal.

Let's not be coy now. What do you think about Dean?

Shall I betray my views of Dr. Howard Dean lo those many years ago and be but another conniver in the political maelstrom of ego?

Possibly I shall. The fact is all these calls from the press are very enticing....I could become his Boswell. I could become a Bernstein wrapped in a Woodward and with a yellow bow tied round.

Now now, let's not be a pompous ass. What do you think of Dean?

What course will I follow? Will it be the discretion of a gentleman or the excess of a blabber mouth? I have to decide before the next press inquiry comes in. I am thinking.

Good Lord man. Get over yourself. It was a freaking Montreal talk show from the 90's that no one ever heard of.

Sheesh.

Isn't this about the time we'd put the "Look at me, Ma! Look at me!" kid in his room on time out?
