Happy New Year!
2003 was remarkably like most other years. There were very good days and very bad days....and most fell somewhere in between in that no-man's land of quiet indifference. The most important thing is that we're all still here.
Since there was no way anyone could top Matt and Vicky's stupendous party last year, we decided to ring in the New Year by spending a quiet evening at home. Or as Mike called it, an "Inside and away from the windows" private party. I conked out way before midnight, but awoke trying to cough up a lung shortly after the New Year began. Mike wished me a Happy New Year, I replied "GACK" and went back to sleep. Exciting, no?
At any rate, here's wishing you and yours a happy and prosperous New Year. Don't forget to eat your black-eyed peas today to ensure good luck all this year.

Black-eyed peas are OK for Southerners but those of us who are ethnic Yankees go for pork and saurkraut on New Year's Day. We've got a roast going in the crockpot right now. It should be done in about 2 hours. Pork roast, saurkraut, and mashed potatoes. Now that's good eats!

Wait...black-eyed peas? Not split peas?
Crap - now what am I supposed to do with all of this soup? I thought I was being really clever - I was going to take a pic of me eating my down-home, good-luck-for-the-new-year split pea soup and post it, just for you. Black-eyed peas? I don't even know what those are.
If eating split peas on New Year's Day is bad luck then don't tell me. What I don't know can't hurt me.
Happy new year, regardless. Enjoy your black-eyed peas, grumble grumble.

And a happy new year to you and yours as well. Right about now I'm just trying to stay perpendicular to the center of the earth.
