Earworm Solution

I heard an interesting theory on NPR while running errands today about earworms. (You know, when you get a song stuck in your head for hours) The cure, according to some scientists, is to listen to the complete song...they call it the completion theory. The theory is that you just get a snippet of the song stuck in your brain, and it can't finish the song. So if you'll listen to the entire song, your brain is satisfied. Or something like that.

The announcer also said that Mozart was particularly prone to them....to the point that his kids would torment him by playing a piece or the scales and stopping a few notes short of completion. It would bug him so badly that eventually he would run over and play the rest. Damn kids!

NPR then played Mozart's Flute & Piano Concerto No. something. I didn't get to hear the entire piece, and so.....guess what's stuck in my head now? AAAAGH!

I think I have it on CD somewhere. I hope.

I have a stupid song my son learned in Scouts stuck in my head every other day. Listening to the whole thing would make my head explode.

Somehow that doesn't work when I get a jingle from a commercial stuck in my head. I was in that predicament the other day and heard the commercial at least 3 times - which didn't help.
