No Surprises

Local news roundup:

--The Arkansas Supremes are taking over the state school system. No surprise here, since the legislature blew off the Court's deadline for bringing the schools into constitutional compliance and the Gov & legislature have been battling over school consolidation.

Choice quotes from yesterday: Justice Brown: "We gave the state 14 months to implement a new system and that wasn't complied with. It's really not even close, is it?" The Gov.: "Far too much time has been wasted trying to appease political and parochial pressure rather than to please the court and prepare for the future by presenting a plan that delivers education effectively and efficiently." Rep. Kenix (Ft. Smith): "There are positive merits of the action. We have thumbed our noses at the court for most of the time."

Can we say 'clusterf*ck'?

--A parked Fayetteville police car was hit head-on at the corner of Wedington & Betty Jo. Not surprisingly, that part of Fayetteville is called 'Betty Jo Corner', a/k/a 'Crackhead Heaven'.

--And finally, a Pocahontas former district court judge and his son were surprised by a court ordered drug test during their trial for mailing a live copperhead snake to a guy with whom they were having a dispute. I'll bet no one was surprised when the drug tests came back positive on the father for meth, amphetamines and pot & positive on the son for pot.

"The driver of the car, 21-year-old Faith Randolph of Springdale is charged with *carless* driving." (emphasis mine)

How high do you have to be to drive without a car?

As for the father-son criminals, it's pretty funny that the dad was had a whole illigal pharmacy in his blood, and his son was just a pothead. Maybe he's rebelling by avoiding hard drugs.
