Anti-American Artistry

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not much of an 'artiste', but WTF is this article doing in the NYTimes Arts section?

Right now many Europeans are betting that the risks from the "axis of evil," from terrorism and tyrants, will never be as great as the risk of an American Leviathan unbound. Perhaps it is in the nature of a postmodern Europe to make such a judgment. But now may be the time for the wisest heads in Europe, including those living in the birthplace of Pascal, to begin asking what will result if that wager proves wrong.

Of course there is a right purty pichure of a big balloon. Maybe that's why.

Lessee, Captain Ahab and the white Whale? He still loses.

I would rather an American Leviathan than a Phrench, German or Russian one, or Middle Eastern one...

"America, for the first time since World War II, is suffering a crisis of international legitimacy." Well, - - in keeping with that excellent joke posted on Curmudgeonly & Skeptical a few weeks ago, I don't believe it is America that is suffering.
