Worm Warning
In case you haven't heard, there's a new worm that's spreading like wildfire.
All that the worm needs to propagate is a user that has an open Microsoft Windows preview pane in Outlook.....If this Outlook pane is open, the worm automatically scours the user's contacts and files. Based on the information gathered, it rapidly sends infected E-mails out to other users, said one solution provider.
I'm pretty sure I've already gotten a copy this morning. At least it appeared to have the telltale characteristics. I didn't open it to confirm my suspicions though. I'm not that dumb.
This one not only tries to email itself to everyone in your address book, but it also tries to launch a DOS attack against www.sco.com. Hmmm. Gee I wonder who wrote this one?

Lovely, isn't it?
My firm got blitzed by it, but we didn't get infected. Because we ask everyone to have the preview pane turned off, and because no one knows how to open a zip file.
So I only had to put in an hour of overtime.

Sometimes ignorance is a good thing.
I preview all my email in Yahoo and only download the keepers into Outlook. That way it gets virus scanned by them and then again by mine before it ever gets onto my machine.
Mike got a weird one claiming to be an Amazon order confirmation. Since neither of us had a pending order from Amazon he just deleted it without opening. Not sure what that was all about, but we figured it wasn't anything good.

The Amazon Order Confirmation is actually spam. I've seen that one in my spam filters. I can't remember what it's for, but it's probably viagra or penis enlargement.
