Questions, Queries, Posers

Since I have a ton of homework to catch up on today (since I took advantage of the snow days to totally goof off), I decided to offer you dear reader the chance of a lifetime.

What's the one question you've always wanted to ask me, but haven't?

I'll be dropping by from time to time today & will answer in the comments. (I also reserve the right to delete anything that goes outside the bounds of good manners and common decency so behave yourselves.)

I already know what one question will be.....

....it's "Rita, why do you buy day-old cinnamon rolls from the bakery? Sure they're half-price, but they're incredibly stale and inedible."

Ah yes, but I know the secret. Wrap the stale cinnamon roll in a damp paper towel and microwave on defrost for about 25 seconds. Wait about 30 seconds and microwave on defrost for another 25 seconds or so. Unwrap and enjoy. It'll taste like it's fresh from the oven.

Now me & my steaming hot cinnamon roll have to go learn how to use SQL in Access.

What kind of accent do you have? And don't tell me you don't have an accent, because everyone has one.

And here's another one; what the hell do you look like?

Posted by: Keith at January 28, 2004 11:48 AM

My accent's more Appalachian than Delta...though for some reason Northerners always think I'm from Missouri. Prolly because I don't have that languid Southern draaaawlll, y'all.

What do I look like? Whew, that's a tough one. Today I look like hell. General description: 5'9", dark blue eyes, fair skin with a few freckles, salt 'n pepper hair. I was skinny as a beanpole as a child, but I filled out right nice when I grew up. I keep my hair fairly short, "Outta my face & outta my eyes" is my standing order at the hairstylist's. She would be horrified to learn that I think my current style looks like a longish, feminine duck's ass haircut sans the greasy stuff. (Remember those?)

If I ever find a good photo of myself (the camera & I have a hate-hate relationship) I promise I'll post it.

In these last few years of using the internet almost daily, I never returned to a single site until about 5 months ago when I accidentally found Curmudgeonly & Skeptical while doing research for a Homeland Security Grant for the Department. (The reference was a Right Wing News article and I happened to click on C&S on the sidebar.) I was instantly hooked by Rodger and when he referenced your site one day, I found you are his complement. (I hope you don't find this insulting, but -) Your pragmatism is the perfect balance to his wildness, and the end result is, the most coherent picture of current events that I have been able to find. I no longer spend hours drowning in a sea of news each day. Instead, I read your logs, read what you have been reading, and then engage the day knowing that I know what needs to be known.
I now know why I am reading your log. My question is, do you know why you write it?

*blush* How very kind you are Kenneth. What a very nice compliment! Now I'm all embarrassed.

I write because it gives me a satisfactory outlet for my thoughts...kind of a "my letter to the world who never wrote to me". But the thing I like best about blogging is that it allows me to have conversations with people I would otherwise never get to meet. It's a contemporary agora you might say.

And the conversation's what it's all about.

How did you get to be a lawyer yet still be so doggone nice?

Plus, I'm with Keith. We want a picture. ;)

I have only one question....Do you love Mike and if so how much? I guess thats two questions, but then who is counting?

Posted by: Bill at January 28, 2004 08:32 PM

Argh - chance of a lifetime to grill ya and I cannot think of a single, probing question...that's not entirely true, but the stuff that I would ask couldn't be answered in a comment (more like another blog entry). I know exactly squat about southern upbringing so I would want to know more about what that whole thing was like. What animals you've slaughtered, that kind of thing.

Oh, and I'd ask you why you don't have an "about me" or a "100 things" page or similar.

Without a picture to go on, I'll tell you how I always imagine you to be - I picture you like a kindly granny-type figure (not old, but generally sweet like a granny would be) who smiles while looking down the barrel of her shotgun at them law fellers that come ta take her land. Mike's in the background, yelling, "Aim low, maw - don't keel 'em, just make 'em dance a bit!"

Like I said, I know nothing of the south. :^)

Aw shucks thanks Craig. Probably because I was older when I went to law school (I graduated in '96) the brainwashing didn't take too well.

Bill I love Mike more than life itself....the only thing I love more is my kids. And that's how it should be right?

Natalie you crack me up. We used to slaughter our own pigs at one time. I was too little to help much but I know how to do it. We usually sent pigs & steers to the butcher's....much easier. But I've killed & cleaned more squirrels than you could shake a stick at....rabbits, deer and fish too. I was usually in the woods when I was a kid, if I wasn't doing chores. When the weather was bad, you'd usually find me with my nose stuck in a book.

You'll probably laugh but the reason I've never had an "About Me" page is I didn't know how to do one. But I just learned how in my Web Page Design class, so I might put one up later.

I don't know if I look like a "kindly granny-type"....maybe that's why little kids like me so much. And it's trespassers, not law types, that I've aimed a gun at.....oh wait, the sheriff's deputy I brought with me had the gun not me. I didn't know Mike then, but that sounds like what he would've said if he'd been there.

The quickest way to make a hillbilly killing mad is to trespass on their property.
