Cold and Colder
I've been hard at work catching up on all the homework I let go while WildChild was here, but I keep having to come out to the kitchen and thaw out with some hot tea or cocoa. For some reason we've never figured out, underneath my computer desk is the coldest place in the house. And since it's snowing/sleeting and the temperature is steadily dropping, I can only work for about an hour stretch before my legs & feet get numb. I've had it. Tomorrow I'm buying a space heater after work....assuming I can get to work.
Oh yeah baby. The revised forecast is for 3-5 inches of snow & ice here tonight. All I got to say is the more the better. If I don't have to go to work tomorrow, I can get completely caught up with school. I've made considerable progress today....beginning to see a faint light at the end of the tunnel.
Now if I could just figure out where that intermittent whistling is coming from.
Whattya mean "Train!"?

Is this the end of time? How is it that Arkansas keeps getting ice and snow and Georgia just gets buckets of ice cold rain? Rain that rudely refuses to coalesce into any kind of diverting winter weather event.
Of course, ask me how I feel about it when we do get a big storm and the lights go out and my whole family is crouching around the gas oven for warmth, right?
As to that chilly computer desk situation, I heartily recommend an army poncho-liner. They are very light weight and they keep you very warm and are the perfect size. About four feet by five feet. My dad always had a bunch of them around from going out on maneuvers.
You can buy them here:

Hmmmm. $32.95. I bet you could get a better price than that at your local army surplus store.

Oh, and they're comoflage. Nothing says you mean business like a cup of cocoa and a camo blankie.

That's the gateway to Hell, Rita. Seriously...you have to go through a frozen layer before the heat kicks in. I should know. I've been there and back many a time.

I've tried a heated throw blanket, but it's just so damn annoying to be all wrapped up and need to get up. And it still doesn't keep my feet very warm. Nope, I'm getting a space heater today.
I thought the frozen layer of hell was at the very bottom, Goddess. The cold air's leaking in from around the old windows and baseboard we think, plus all the air conditioner piping comes into the house there. I could move the desk, but it would be a big pain to rearrange the room....and then I wouldn't be able to see all the bird feeders that are right outside the windows.

I always have my Cozy-Rest foot warmet on (one of the best gifts my parents ever gave me). I think there is a law somewhere that says that the coldest place in any house must always be beneath the desk!
