Martha Guilty On All Counts

The jury has convicted Martha Stewart on all charges. I have to say that kinda surprises me, though I know you can never predict what a jury will do. I just didn't think the gov't had proven its case too well. Though from what one juror said, I don't think that mattered.

Chappell Hartridge, a 47-year-old computer technician at an insurance company, said he hopes the verdict sends a message to corporations that "they have to abide by the rules and no one's above the law."

"Maybe it's a victory for the little guy who loses money in the markets because of these types of transactions, the people who lose money in 401(k) plans," Hartridge said.

"Maybe it might give the average guy a little more confident feeling that (he) can invest in the market and everything will be on the up and up."

Sounds like Ms. Upper Crust didn't play too well with the jury.

Go figure.

Please give me a break.....Do you believe Martha was un-justly stereotyped? If she was, she did it to herself. You try lying and interfering with a Government investigation and see what happens,(you know whatever would happen, would be quicker and harsher in your situation). If you are asking a rehetorical question as to the LEVEL of culpability, then ask it, but to presume that the jury was biased after a decision,( because of the reaction of one polled juror), is at best pre-emptive. She was a stockbroker and a member of the NYSE and as such was aware what her responsibilties were regarding her behavior. All of this is of her own making and she has no one to blame, but herself.
Will you agree that MANY transactions of this type occurr on a daily basis? Being ahead of the curve is the name of the game......and you know that as well as everyone else. Probably why there will not be much sympathy for her if she must face incarceration. I doubt that she will recieve much more than fines and community service.
