Celebrate Good Times

Just got back from taking a certification exam in Fort Smith and am happy to report I am now officially a Certified HIPAA Professional. Which means I am qualified to be your company's HIPAA Compliance officer, to write & enforce HIPAA security & privacy policy, and generally make your lives a living hell.

Beware my evil powers! Bwahahaha!

Well, I haven't the slightest clue of what this HIPAA business is about, but congratulations nonetheless. :)

I HATE it when I get HIPAA assignments at work. That damn thing is so complex!

How come whenever I see HIPAA related stuff at work, I think "hippo"?

Paul, you're lucky. It stands for "Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act". Or something like that.

Lawren, not so complex when you look at the goals:

Administrative simplification: everyone has to use the same forms for billing, etc.

Privacy: patient info can't be released w/o permission

Security: protect patient info from prying eyes

Of course it would've been nice if they'd defined "reasonable assurances" or "minimum necessary information", but that's what lawyers are for. Right? If you ever need a BAC or other forms, e-mail me. I have quite the nice collection started.

Keith, I think the same thing....though 'Certified Hippo Professional' doesn't sound as impressive does it?
