Myth Meets Reality
John "I don't own an SUV but my wife has several" Kerry is starting to look unelectable....in every way.
"I gave back, I can't remember, six, seven, eight, nine medals," Kerry said in an interview with WRC-TV, a Washington, D.C., station on Nov. 6, 1971, ABC News reported. Kerry previously had told the network that stories about him tossing medals were a "myth."
In the 1971 interview, for a program called "Viewpoints," Kerry - who had not yet been elected to the Senate - said that war veterans who threw away their medals "decided to give them back to their country."
When asked if he disposed of his Bronze Star, Silver Star and three Purple Hearts received as a Navy lieutenant in Vietnam, he replied, "Well, and above that. [I] gave back the others."
I guess by "gave back" he meant "hung them on the wall of his senatorial office".
What amazes me the most about Kerry is how he repeatedly makes these kinds of misstatements like half the country isn't just waiting to fact-check his ass.
Buy a clue with your wife's money.

It's pretty easy to accuse Kerry of lying about the medals situation because it's slightly complicated.
As I understand it, he threw his ribbons away and kept his actual medals.
So if he says he didn't throw his medals, they call him a liar because he threw his ribbons. And if he says he threw his medals they can call him a liar because he's still got a silver star and three purple hearts hanging on his wall.
And you're right, half the country is looking to call him a liar every chance they get. That half wouldn't vote for him anyway, though.

Aaron, sometimes you really sound like a condescending ass. The only thing 'slightly complicated' about this whole matter is the tangled web Kerry's weaving trying to explain the obvious contradiction between his 1971 statement "I threw medals" and the fact that they're hanging on his office wall....instead of just telling the truth.
And I don't think he has the charm to carry off the "it all depends on what the meaning of the word 'medals' is" explanation.

Aaron IS a condecending ass.

But that depends on what your definition of "Is" is.

Rita, your whole blog is regularly condescending to people who have points of view different than yours ("smelly hippes," crazy america-hating liberals, the murderous canadian health care system, etc.).
This very post oozes condescension at anyone who'd consider voting for "unelectable" Kerry.
If I come off as condescending in my comments, it's primarily because I'm mirroring the tone you use constantly yourself. Am I not allowed to use the same rhetorical tools at your disposal?

Thanks for once again proving my point.

Aaron: What's the deal? Contention for the sake of contention? Expect disdain when you present an in-defensable point of view and scrutiny as to the reasoning that supports such a defense. A small amount of common sense goes a long way. If your underlying intention is to antagonize people you are succeeding and if it is to change opinions,(I suspect the later), you are failing.

Wow! Simmer down kids, simmer down! Looks like everyone's getting their feelings hurt when next week the issue will be something either entirely different or we'll be back to discussing Bush's service duty - or lack thereof (to be fair to all). Yall shouldn't take things too personally this early in the game.
However, I think Kerry isn't necessarily a "lieing sack of shit," but close enough. He's got half-truths just oozing out of every pore which he in turn denies and then changes his story when it suits his advancement in career. He's certainly not the only one to do this, just the guy in the spotlight right now.
I can't wait until it's closer to election time! There's bound to be much jucier stuff!
