Why?
Why do I keep getting personal recommendations for jobs for which I'm not qualified, but I can't get interviews for jobs for which I am qualified? I was recently offered this job for which I hadn't applied but one of my instructors had recommended me. If I had known anything about php or Perl, I would've taken it. But I don't.
I think perhaps I should pay for a professionally-done resume, because the ones I'm sending out obviously suck. I don't even get call-backs from them.
It's very frustrating.

The best IT people are usually the ones that learn their job on-the-go. I have no doubt that you could whip perl and PHP websites into shape in no time.
Three years ago I knew nothing about PDAs, spamfighting, or browser hijackings. Now I'm the expert on all three at work.

I thought about that Keith, but decided I didn't want to be trying to learn them at work while I was also trying to learn C++ and a few others at school.
At least I don't have to worry about being deported too, Andy. I don't know how you guys manage to keep it all together so well.

You're already better at writing than whoever came up with that ad:
"Develop web sites using Dreamweaver and Fireworks software while ***wowrking*** with other web authors to create content that follow college, state, and federal policies. Develop, ***tes***, and troubleshoot online applications using several programming languages including PHP, JavaScript, and Perl. Write and troubleshoot SQL statements that transfer data to various databases."
