Smoke 'Em If You Got 'Em

This is not good news. At all.

The Senate overwhelmingly approved a landmark tobacco deal on Thursday to give the Food and Drug Administration long-sought power to regulate cigarettes and give $12 billion in aid to tobacco farmers.

Like my mother always says, if other people would pay half as much attention to their own business as they paid to mine, the world would be a much better place. You know what the FDA has planned, don't you?

The proposal would give the FDA expanded powers to require more forceful health warnings on cigarette packs, regulate advertising, more aggressively combat underage sales and regulate ingredients to make cigarettes less harmful. It could not ban cigarettes or completely eliminate nicotine.

Riiiight. They can't ban them outright, so they want to modify them so as to make them unsmokeable.

They can kiss my lily-white hillbilly ass.

My grandpa grew his own chaw and my daddy made his own corn liquor. I reckon I can learn how to grow and roll my own. Tax free. And I've got just the place to do it too.

Snoopy liberals don't last too long in them thar hills.

Before long, the cost of cigarettes will be the same as the UK. Last time I was there, I was paying 4 quid a pack ($6.50?). Bastards.

I've paid over $4 a pack here. I usually try to buy in bulk in the stores closer to the Oklahoma border....where due to the competition of the tobacco shops on the rez, a carton of Marlboros are around $26, instead of $35-40 like they are locally.

That's what I like about Shaw's, we can get butts for $26-27 carton. At Walmart they're $35 a carton. In Taxachussetes it's a lot more. I don't know how much more (a lot anyway), but I do know a lot of people will drive up to NH to get cigs.

..if everyone in the US stopped smoking for two weeks, 1/2 the States in the Union would go bankrupt.. truth is, they don't really WANT us to quit smoking.. the RELY on those taxes... bastards...

Be nice if they were actually doing something useful with those taxes. But they're not.

Most of the more rabid, hardcore anti-smokers around here are also the biggest supporters of legalized marijuana. Apparently smoking pot = good; smoking tobacco = bad.

I still haven't figured that one out.
