Do the Right Thing

Dude, you fell on your ass and only won because the judges screwed over one of your competitors.

Give it back.

Have to disagree with you, Rita. The extra hold would have bumped his score back down, which evens things out: http://www.nbcolympics.com/timdaggett/5051154/detail.html
To me, it seems like this is a case of harmless error (if you'll pardon the expression.

What amuses me are the reactions.

The FIG letter to Hamm displays a light touch with the "FAIRPLAY" in all caps at the start of the letter: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/olympics/athens/gymnastics/2004-08-27-fig-letter_x.htm

Similarly amusing is the USOC letter in response, which states, "The USOC finds this request to be improper, outrageous and so far beyond the bounds of what is acceptable that we refuse to transmit it to Mr. Hamm." : http://www.usatoday.com/sports/olympics/athens/gymnastics/2004-08-27-usoc-letter_x.htm

It just cracks me up.

Yeah, I agree with Tony. It's a part of how they score in gymnastics. The only way they'll correct this in the future is to do a replay before scoring. He might have gained a few points in one area, but he should have been docked in another area...I think Paul Hamm should keep his medal.
