Con Jobs?

Got home to find a couple of interesting e-mails. One suggests that there may be evidence that the documents claiming Bush failed to complete his Guard obligations used in last night's 60 Minutes were forgeries. Apparently the typefont used in the documents wasn't in widespread use during the 70's.

Now I don't know about that, but it seems to me it would have been inordinately silly to make such a fundamental mistake if they are forgeries. We'll see how it turns out.

Speaking of inordinately silly, Opinion Journal's Review & Outlook reports that there's new evidence that Jimmy Carter was fooled by the recent Venezuelan election. Seems there was some tomfoolery with the electronic voting machines.

Like, duh.

Carter's biggest problem has always been that he naively believes everyone will behave as honorably and truthfully to him as he does to them. While this may work in agreements between Southern gentlemen, that ain't how things work in the real world.

In reality, people are a mixture of good, bad and indifference....the only question is how much of each does someone have. Carter, I think, believes that people are intrinsically good. So I wasn't surprised that he was fooled again.

At least this time there were no killer rabbits involved.

Rita, about your hypothesis that people are intrinsically good:

Example: brokering the 1994 nuke deal with the North Koreans on behalf of Clinton. I mean, seriously, good faith on behalf of Kim Jong Il?

Counter-example: his letter to Zell Miller accusing him of betrayal.

The only thing Carter's done that I unequivocally approve of was his taking sole responsibility for Desert One. That took courage. But that's pretty much it.
