Power of Advertising

While we were in the store, a big display of this caught WildChild's eye: Tide ColdWater. He insisted he needed to buy some, even though he had no idea what it was because he can't read. But the box looked cool. Apparently.

I explained that it was detergent to wash clothes, and that he didn't need to wash any clothes. He still wanted it.

"I need it, Ma," he insisted. "I like icy clothes."

Somehow I don't think that was the response the Tide people were going for.

I bet if you gave him some icy clothes, you might be able to change his mind!

If you bought some to humor him, the Tide people would take that as a positive. :-)

I saw that at the store the other day...and I'll admit, I was tempted just because of the cool-sounding name (no pun intended) and the packaging.

But I opted for the cheaper stuff, as per my routine.

We didn't have a dryer when I was growing up, so I've worn my share of icy clothes. I bet that would change his mind.

It was really interesting to see how effective their product packaging & placement was even to a non-reader.
