Wow

Installing MT-Blacklist was relatively painless and simple. If you have any problems leaving comments, e-mail me at solliesez-spamsux at yahoo dot com.

Now let's see if this sucker works.

Hello Rita - Sometimes you speak in a language that I'm not familiar with, but it's obvious that you are being annoyed by a pest and finally had to put out a mouse trap. My question is, is this something that would quickly be obvious in your log, but you see it coming and fix it before the average viewer notices anything? Even though you have mentioned being invaded several times, I'm not sure that I've ever experienced the consequences here. Also, will they be bothering everyone soon?

Oh those stupid comment spammers. I've had one that leaves links to various shady medication sales sites in my comments every day for the last couple of weeks. There were two such comments this morning....which were very easy to delete with MT-Blacklist I might add. They're difficult to keep out because they spoof their IP addresses (i.e., hide who they really are & pretend to be someone else). I can't see them coming in the logs or ban them from commenting because of that. All I can do is delete their comments as soon as I see them.

They're driving everyone crazy whose sites allow unregistered comments. You shouldn't be bothered by them because you don't allow comments except by e-mail. My other site doesn't get them because I don't allow unregistered comments there. Blogger is great for that.

I'm planning to switch to registered/moderated comments after this semester ends. I'll have to upgrade versions of Moveable Type or switch to WordPress to do that, and I just don't have time to do it right now. Ideally, that will allow me to have two type of comments. One will be registered, meaning you guys will sign up & get a user ID and password, then you can log-in & comment anytime. The other will be moderated, meaning you won't have to register, but your comment won't be posted until I approve it.

I hate to do that because it will be a minor pain in the butt for everyone, but I refuse to advertise for these shady characters. They're no different that the guy standing on a street corner selling a 'Rolex' for $10. And I want no part of that.

The only other option is to not allow comments at all. And I would missing talking to you guys too much to do that.

Girl, switch to wordpress. All the cool kids are doing it.

And the "never have to rebuild again" feature makes it so worth it.
