More Ways To Help
The Arkansas Bar Association is soliciting assistance from its members for our colleagues in Mississippi & Louisiana. If you'd like to make a donation, send it to either:
Hurricane Katrina Legal Community Relief Fund
c/o Baton Rouge Bar Foundation
544 Main Street
Baton Rouge, LA 70802
OR
(Only checks can be accepted, payable to:
"Mississippi Hurricane Fund")
Office of the Governor, Attn: Hurricane Relief Fund
P.O. Box 139
Jackson, MS 39201
I've also learned, through them, that the UALR law school in Little Rock will be accepting law students from Louisiana with "special waiver concessions". Additionally, Arkansas colleges are pitching in to help.
Arkansas public universities will provide free tuition and fees for the fall semester to Arkansas students attending universities in New Orleans, officials announced Wednesday.
The universities will also provide out-of-state tuition waivers for non-Arkansas students affected by Hurricane Katrina.
Since most colleges just started back within the last week or so, students shouldn't have much problem getting up to speed at a new school.
BTW, this idea came from Lu Hardin, president of UCA in Conway, my undergrad alma mater. Good job, Lu!
