Not So Good

So I drove down to Fayette-nam after lunch and had a great visit with Miss Vicki....who I'm happy to report may not be feeling too well, but she looks mah-velous as usual. I was in a great mood when I left, who wouldn't be after spending time with her?

Then I got home & returned a call from one of my doctors. My lab results were not so good. (Neither were the ones I got from my other doctor, but we're not going to talk about that yet). Nothing too serious, but my blood sugar was borderline high again. He wants to put me on a diabetic diet. You know what that means?

NO MORE CHERRY DR. PEPPER'S FROM SONIC!!!

WAAAAAAAH! NOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Damn my ailing pancreas. Damn it to hell.

I may cry.

Thank you, Rita. She was in a good mood, as well. I'm sorry about the test results, but cherry Dr. Pepper is just nasty.

Hey my doctor is reading me the same riot act.

First he told me to cut out the sugary drinks (like Coca-Cola) then he told me to lose 25-40 pounds.

He claims that the weight loss will make my blood sugars street legal again.

We are waiting and seeing.

Matt, that's just heresy. Cherry Dr. Pepper from Sonic is the finest drink known to mankind. As for the test results, meh. I knew that was in my future, I was just hoping to put it off a little longer.

Thomas, hope it works for you. High blood sugar is nothing to mess around with. Shit'll kill ya, ya know. ;-) Mine haven't been all that high, I think my doc is just trying to be aggressively proactive. And I'm ok with that.

I just rilly dread it.

Rita, dear, DO NOT SCREW AROUND. You want to put off diabetes as long as possible. Voice of authority here.

Happy New Year Rita!

The good news is that Diet Dr. Pepper is one of the more drinkable diet drinks. The bad news is that I suppose booze is out of the question. Oy!

Oh I know Keith, I've a family history of diabetes. I plan to be a very good girl & stick to the diet. The last thing I want is to stick myself with a needle a jillion times a day.

Jim I haven't been able to drink booze for several years now because of one of the medications I take. Can't say I miss it all that much. The bad thing is that I hate diet anything....though diet Dr. Pepper is the best of a bad lot. I think I'll just go back to being strictly a water/unsweetened tea drinker.

Thanks Yaya, and the same to you. Though I have to say ours hasn't gotten off to a very good start....which is what we get for forgetting to eat our blackeyed peas New Year's Day.

I said the same thing about diet drinks. Hated 'em. Swore I'd drink water instead.

Then I went diabetic, and in a moment of "I gotta have a pop!", I had a diet Dr Pepper.

I can no longer tell the difference between diet and regular. I swear. You will adjust. And once you do, it will make things a LOT easier.

Heh, I'll probably do the same. Actually, I rarely drank pop until recently. Had to quit them when I got braces, and just never started back on them. Not sure why I did, now I'll have to go through withdrawal again.

If you're still taking steroids you can expect your blood sugar to remain high. Even one dose of prednisone can kick it up 20 points.

Yeah Goddess, I figured that's what it was. I'm still on the steroids, but in the process of getting completely off them. Not sure what I'll be trying next, but since my ESR has shot up from 9 to 33 already, I'm guessing it'll be something strong & just as nasty.
