That's Gotta Hurt

I'd hate to be this attorney.

After four years of living with lawsuits and three weeks of trial, a Washington County jury took only 21 minutes to return a verdict in favor of Alpharma in a lawsuit alleging arsenic from chicken feed caused her son's rare form of leukemia.

That's barely enough time to elect a foreperson and fill out the 'you lose' verdict form.

Ouch.

Why did the lawyer take this case? Just watching bits from the news, I thought this case was a loser from the start.

Hard to say. I remember reading, before all this started, about how there's a cancer cluster in Prairie Grove. Opinions differ on whether it's just a statistical anomaly or if there's some other cause.

If they'd been able to prove a causal link, those attorneys would've been sitting pretty....you know how much chicken litter has been spread around the state. But they lost the battle of the experts. This time anyway.

I'm not convinced one way or the other at this point.

Cancer clusters? Nothing in my experience makes them "real" but nothing also disproves them. Too many factors are involved in this one.
