Get the Heck Out of Dodge
The illegals problem has reached a tipping point in Rogers, and their mayor is trying to find a solution.
Of the 57 arrests for delivery or intent to deliver drugs in Rogers since the first of 2005, 43 were Hispanic and 25 were illegal immigrants, according to statistics gathered by Mayor Steve Womack on Wednesday.
His first solution was to propose a Hazelton ordinance, which has been put on hold pending the outcome of the Hazelton lawsuit. Now he's trying to get ICE 287(g) training for Rogers' police force. Which is a good idea cuz those poor 2 ICE agents who cover NW Arkansas need all the help they can get.
A recent road rage shooting illustrates our problem:
After a 2000 arrest in Salinas, Calif., Camacho was deported back to Mexico, officials from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement say. But by 2003 Camacho was living in Northwest Arkansas.......
After deportation, Camacho returned to the United States and settled in Northwest Arkansas working as a day laborer. Rogers police encountered him almost a dozen times between 2003 to 2006. He was a suspect in a rape case that wasn't pursued. He was convicted of driving while intoxicated, third-degree battery, criminal mischief and three times of not having a driver's license. He had speeding tickets -- one for driving between 46 and 50 mph over the speed limit.
Once, he was stopped for playing "unnecessarily loud" music in his vehicle and claimed to be a member of a "South 18th Street" gang, police said.
None of these arrests, or resulting checks with the Arkansas Crime Information Center, flagged Camacho as having been deported or being illegal.
Then there's the more recent incident which provided the proverbial straw:
Camacho's tale is mirrored by Jose and Ricardo Mora, subjects of recent news stories about an accidental shooting of a Rogers undercover narcotics officer. Immigration officials claim the brothers were deported in 2000, but local police encountered the men since then. They are now in the Benton County Jail facing felony drug charges from an October drug raid.
All this has brought the inevitable charges of racism and discrimination, but seriously. Is it racist if a large percentage of arrests are of illegal Hispanics who are committing crimes?
I don't think it is.
What I've seen in the last 5 years or so is a large influx of Hispanic gang-bangers and drug runners who are preying on the decent, hardworking families who live here....regardless of the families' race, color or creed. And we don't want them here. We have enough homegrown ones. At least the non-illegal criminals get sent to prison. The illegals get deported and are right back in a few months or weeks.
And it's pretty plain that the federal government, for whatever reason, isn't going to spend the money necessary to stop it.

You still miss the point. As a foriegn national living outside the U.S. I am required to follow local laws here ie: legal residency. If I fail to register, I am subject to jail, fine and deportation. They will deport me only after jail and taking whatever funds I have available. There is a basic disconect. The belief that these are, by and large, just good people in a bad situation. They aren't. They are willfully breaking our law and they expect you to ignore that fact, but in their countries that is never ignored. They need to stay in their own countries and fight for change and actually work to make a better life for themselves and their families. What should we tell the people that have done everything that is required to get a legal visa? You are an idiot for following the rules? This is an inconvient fact concerning Latinos in general, that a substantial percentage of them do not recognise authority and the idea of lines and order are an antithema. I see it deal with it dailey.

I think she hit the nail on the head Bill. If your legal, you can be held accountable. I don't think she missed the point at all, but perhaps you did.
She sums it up perfectly in one of her last paragraphs "What I've seen in the last 5 years or so is a large influx of Hispanic gang-bangers and drug runners *who are preying on the decent, hardworking families who live here....regardless of the families' race, color or creed*. And we don't want them here. We have enough homegrown ones. At least the *non-illegal criminals get sent to prison. The illegals get deported and are right back in a few months or weeks*.
And that, Rita, is why I recently resigned my Reserve Deputy status with Benton County over2 weeks ago. Catch & Release is killing us, and I'm tired of being part of it, first hand. Your 100% right. And sadly with Beebe at the wheel, it will probably continue, as one of his planks was "Local Law Enforcement should not have to deal with a Federal Issue"
He, in affect, supports Catch & Release. Disgusting!
I'm hoping our Govenor here takes note, as doesn't go down the same path. He has alluded to cracking down on illegals (especially with the Meth production problem we have being tied to them)

I don't disagree with you Bill at all. All illegals should be deported. They are breaking the law. Period. And I don't care where they're from. It's not just Mexicans, there's also Central Americans and even a few Asians who were caught lately. I'm just pointing out that the drug/gang member illegals have finally gotten so bad that some of the local governments have had enough.
And about damn time I say.
Beebe's not going to do squat because the businesses that depend on exploiting cheap labor don't want him to. Which is the root of the problem at the federal level as well.
It's really interesting that Mexico, which has one of the more draconian anti-illegal programs, complains so much about ours. Especially the border fence, you know, the one like Mexico has across its southern border. Mexico doesn't want its illegal immigration into the US to stop because of all the money they send back home. Plus, it helps keep down the population of those who most want things changed there.
Win-win for them. For us, not so much.
