Pay Them Now or Pay Them Later
A self-proclaimed 'tax protester' was sentenced & fined yesterday by our federal court. His reason for not paying taxes?
Both a Mountain Home accountant and IRS agents told him he had to pay taxes, but he testified he found information on the Internet saying one section of the income tax code allowed taxes on foreign income and, since domestic income was not mentioned in that section, he didn’t have to pay his taxes.
FYI, "But Your Honor, I read it on the internets so it must be true" is prolly not the best defense to 25 charges of tax fraud.
Like d'uh.

When I was a law clerk for a judge on the Third Circuit Court of Appeals a guy whose appeal was summarily dismissed took the unusual step of actually calling the chambers. Turns out he regularly files lawsuits claiming that the federal income tax is unconstitutionat, and the suits are regularly dismissed (as are the appeals). I politely suggested that he might consider another hobby.

It's more like an obsession for the 'believers' around here. My semi-polite response is usually "Yeah, let me know how that works out for you."
Though this is a new twist. I usually hear some spiel about how paying income tax is voluntary. Not sure exactly how, I stop listening after hearing 'voluntary'.

"I was born stupid."

That doesn't work too well around here. I think all the judges got tired of hearing it a long time ago.
Stupidity isn't illegal, but it should be.
