Kalamazoo Spam

What's with the alphabet comment spammers anyway? I don't understand what they get out of posting jibberish....except to see if it gets posted (it doesn't) or to just be annoying (which they are).

Tedious.

Hi Rita: What are comment spammers? I do know from reading what spammers are, but so far have never encountered one (I don't think).

They basically leave spam in your comments, usually multiple links to disgusting websites you wouldn't want your dog to see, or some type of gambling site. You guys rarely see the ones left here because I automatically block anything with more than one link contained in the comment. But I still have to delete them from the site, which is annoying. I also close comments on older posts & don't allow HTML in comments to help keep them out.

The latest ones I get though, are just gibberish, random letters, with bogus appearing website links. I'll get 3-4 in rapid succession, from multiple IP addresses. They don't get posted, but I have to delete them and ban all the URLs they contain. It annoys me because it's like someone threw advertising leaflets all over your lawn, which you then have to clean up.

Spammers are the Numeral uno reason why went to a registration based site

Just got to be we couldn't keep up with the amount of spam comment and trackbacks we got.

They still eat up your server, which is what bugs me most. Not only do they try to get me to advertise for free, they waste my bandwidth.
