Weird Wild Stuff

Yesterday morning was thunderstorms with tornado threats. Yesterday afternoon was a dust storm & raining mud. I don't think it rained mud here, but the dust storm was something else.

We took advantage of a break in the weather to run some errands yesterday afternoon, and when we came out of our next-to-last stop Mike told me to look at the sky. A big orange mass was approaching from the southwest, so dense that it was almost completely blocking the sun. He asked if that was a tornado and I replied "No, that's about half of Oklahoma heading our way." Actually it was Texas, but anyway.

By the time we came out of our last stop, the intrepid little Girl Scouts hawking cookies by the front door were having trouble standing in the winds. As we struggled to the car, we noticed a flock of starlings give up attempting to fly to safety & land in a nearby field. A few minutes after we got home, we could barely see across our lot. The bulk of the dust passed fairly quickly, but the wind was gusting between 45-50 mph....which continued all freaking night.

And there was a chance of SNOW last night as well.

Hey, that's early spring in NWA. If you don't like the weather, wait a few minutes. It'll change.

First came the winds and dust, and it was good. So good we could not see the fabled city of Pea Ridge or our own mail box

Then came the cold. With the Wind. And it was not good. As we froze our taters off, and had none for supper. Fortunately we did have heat. That came on all night long because of the verdammt wind.

Then came the snow at midnight.

After finishing our movie, the wife and I minus the child were enjoying something little seen in today's households and rarely enjoyed because of our work schedules: conversation. (the horror! the horror!) When going out to feed the dog my wife returns a look of exasperation. "It's freaking snowing!"

Some times I think mother nature just has it in for us up here on our little mountain.

You're just far enough north to get all the good stuff. By last night I was thinking if we lived out West where the wind blows like this all the time, I think I'd go insane.

No, B-ville's where I'd rather stay.
I get allergic smelling hay.
I just adore my Icehouse view....

You guys are kidding, right?

It was a little windy down here, but we hardly got any rain, and it certainly wasn't a return to the dustbowl days. Yeah, no snow either.

What a difference thirty miles makes.

'return to the dustbowl days'? Up here it was more like Return to Dune. We got sandblasted just walking to the car from the Neighborhood Market. Or as I like to call it, an 'Oklahoma Facial'.

I didn't see any snow here, but I was asleep before 10.

We got a very nice dusting of snow, that didn't even survive until morning.

Dune is a great way to explain the dust. It was bad. We didn't get as much on top of our mountain, but below us it was so bad it looked like fog. We had a few occasions (like the mailbox) where it whipped up here for about 20 minutes then would settle back down.

Just the temperature difference between my house and Pea Ridge is on average about 3 degree's cooler. Almost 5 between me and Bentonville. I have to attribute it to Elevation because I have no idea what else to give it too, heh
