Is A Mystery

A friend is trying to i.d. a mystery plant, any ideas?

My best guess was some type of wild fennel, but she says it has no smell or taste. She's got me stumped....though I suspect it's some kind of weed, and not the seed her little granddaughter planted.

See what you think.

I don't know where your friend lives, but that's a common weed that grows all over the place in Florida. I don't know what it's called. I like it -- I think it's kind of pretty -- but it's considered a weed.

She lives across town from me. I think it's a weed too, but don't know what kind. Whatever it is, it's freaking huge.

I was thinking yarrow until I went to look at my plants and the foliage just isn't quite right (by the way, don't taste the leaves of yarrow, it doesn't taste bad but later my tongue started going a bit numb).

Now I'm thinking Tickseed (coreopsis). All the websites just show the flowers, not the foliage, but it seems pretty close to what I have.

Hmmm. Maybe Tickseed, though I've never seen that get this big here. Of course I'm sure she's been fertilizing it like crazy since her granddaughter planted it.

Her husband tasted it & said it tasted like grass if that helps any.

Went and tasted the tickseed - just like grass. Mine is 18-22" tall, without fertilizer. Guess you'll know for sure if/when it blooms.

LOL now that was going the extra mile! I think you're probably right.

I posted my guess over there, but I'll post it here too. It kind of looks like and Asparagus Fern, but I'm not sure.

That was my first guess but after looking more closely I think the stems are wrong for that. If it ever blooms we'll know for sure.

My neighbor said to tell everyone thanks for all their help!
