Trick or Treat Kitty
Halloween night we were sitting out on the porch handing out candy to all the neighborhood kids when a group of kids & adults approached. Mike took the candy bowl out to them and remarked to one adult that they'd brought their kitty trick or treating with them. "No," the adult replied. "We're not sure where he came from. He just starting walking along with us."
They left, but the kitty remained, investigating everything in our yard. I started talking to it, and it came over & started rubbing against my legs mewing softly. Friendly little thing, a dark sleek tabby. I noticed it kept going from me to the candy bowl and back to me as if begging for some candy. I started laughing & told Mike I believe this cat wants his trick or treat.
So I went inside & brought back a small handful of kitty food. It ran over as if "Finally!" and almost inhaled everything I brought. Kids were still stopping by but it ignored them. When it finished, it looked up at me & mewed again as if to ask "Please may I have some more?" So of course I brought out another, bigger handful of food. It settled down & ate almost every bit. When it finished, it came over to me, rubbed against my legs a few times as I petted it, then belly bulging, went across the street to the next house. The ladies there petted it but didn't give it anything.
It left and started up the street to the next house...which didn't have its lights on. So it came back to the ladies again, one got up, went inside & brought something back out for it. By this time, we were all cracking up laughing. After it ate, another group of kids came along and it left with them, tail high, heading to the next house.
We always have interesting trick or treaters, but I have to say that was a first.
That was one smart kitty!
