Fizzy Foamy Science

We have a running joke at work about a certain small town's CSI investigative capabilities, i.e., they got their crime lab kit here. Apparently its sister city is in Germany.

DNA analysis is great except when it's wrong.

A few years ago one of the officers where I worked took the new video recorder with him to a residential burglary investigation. After he brought the machine back to the office and left, the Chief asked me to come to his office and look at the result - which started with the camera bouncing around and filming the sidewalk and officer's shoes as he walked up to the house. It recorded the concrete steps as he was ringing the doorbell and talking to the person who answered. Then it recorded his shoes walking across the carpet as he explained that he was going to video everything for the report. Then he obviously put the camera up to his eye and turned it off. Filming started again with his shoes walking out the front door as he was telling the victims that he had the crime scene and their statements recorded and would be contacting them when the report was finished. The rest of the recording was of the sidewalk as he walked back to the car, the floorboard of the car as he drove back to the station, and the floor of the police station as he walked back to the office where he turned the camera over to the chief. I can still entertain myself by thinking about that (or really, almost any of that officer's crime scene investigations. One of his reports described how an elderly lady backed her car across a highway at a high rate of speed, and scared a large truck.)

Haha! I think his brother works around here. There's this one officer who either needs to write reports like he talks or needs to get a dictionary. Those big words he tries to use don't mean what he thinks they do. God love him, it's hard to read his reports b/c I'm laughing so hard at his unintentional funnies.

My other favorite writes everything very over-dramatically, I call him Officer "It was a dark & stormy night". He can make a routine traffic stop sound like a Ludlum novel.
