By now I'm sure you've heard about Osama's newest tape.
Bin Laden refers to al-Zarqawi as "one of our greatest knights and one of our best emirs (leaders)," and adds, "We were very happy to find in him a symbol and role model for our future generations."
Given what I saw on the 'Zarqawi Uncensored' video, I've a pretty good idea what kind of knight he was....and what his last words were.
Color me unimpressed.
Actually though, if I were casting a movie about those two, I think I'd pick these two to play them. The dialogue might go something like:
Zarqawi: What are we going to do today, Osama?
Osama: The same thing we do every day, Zarqawi. Try To Take Over The World! er, I mean, Kill The Infidels!
Or maybe this:
Osama: Are you thinking what I'm thinking, Zarqawi?
Zarqawi: I think so Osama, but this time YOU have to put the burka on the camel. Narf!
Practically writes itself.
Really. Honest. It gives me the heebies jeebies just thinking about it.
The stolen VA laptop has been recovered.
The government has recovered the stolen laptop computer and hard drive containing sensitive data for up to 26.5 million veterans and military personnel, Veterans Affairs Secretary Jim Nicholson said Thursday.
The FBI said data on veterans, military personnel in the recovered laptop computer was not accessed after it was stolen.
The bigger issue now is which dumbass gave permission for this employee to take this data home. Because that was really stupid.
Right Ernest & Young?
It's called 'encryption' boys. If you're going to insist on doing dumb shit like this, you might want to look into it.
It'd be better than nothing anyway.
Via Chaz, I discovered I'm either much nicer than I think or extremely boring. Or maybe both.

Our good neighbor's sister and family have lost pretty much everything in a house fire....including their pets. So get yourself on over there and lend 'em a hand.
We all get by with a little help from our friends, right?
Ah, it's good to be the king, er, I mean governor.
The New York-based company that counts Gov. Mike Huckabee among its directors began merging Tuesday with a separate shell company, a cheap and fast way to go public.
No guarantees of course, but a nice venture if it pays off.
Nazem said that despite the losses, the company will prove a success. That would be good news for Huckabee, who as director has the option to buy up to 25, 000 shares at 90 cents a share.
With the current share price far below 90 cents, Huckabee hasn’t exercised any of those options, Nazem said. But if the company’s stock is a hit with investors, and the share prices rises, it could be a windfall for the governor.
Wouldn't that be right handy if say one was planning a run for the presidency? But that had nothing to do with including our Rev. Gov. in the deal.
Nazem asked Huckabee to join the company after reading the governor’s book, Quit Digging Your Grave with a Knife and Fork, and hearing some of his lectures on health.
You know, I've lost quite a bit of weight after getting off prednisone. Yet I haven't been offered any great stock buy-ins lately. Hmmm. What's up with that?
I haven't stopped smoking, that must be why.
Had my first post-op check-up this morning, everything is healing quite nicely the neurosurgeon said. I can somewhat increase my activities, using as a guide common sense and one of my dad's favorite sayings:
If it hurts when you do that, then don't do that.
The x-rays were totally cool, looking something like this and this. I kinda feel like the Bionic Woman now. I'll bet going through airport security will be a big pain though.
But all in all, I'm very happy with the results so far. The miserable sciatica is gone, which is a big relief. Post-surgical pain has been manageable. And my neurosurgeon seems to not only be a good surgeon but a geniunely nice guy who cares about his patients.
I've discovered over the years that unfortunately that's an all too rare combination in surgeons.
Apparently some NYTimes putz discovered there's Jews in them thar hills. What a meshuggana. Hardly news to those of us who live here.
Apparently he missed all the Hindus and Muslims who also live here....not to mention Rastafarians. And what about the Wiccans, hmm? There's no mention of Wiccans or Satanists either. What are you Mr. NYTimes, some kind of bigot?
But not to worry my stereotypically challenged friend. There's still plenty of old-time Baptists around.
The Rev. Ronnie Floyd cried "foul" when learning beer would be sold at a proposed $33 million baseball stadium in Springdale.
Floyd, who leads 16,000 members of the First Baptist Church in Springdale and the Church at Pinnacle Hills in Rogers, originally endorsed the project, making a video that was shown at a Springdale Chamber of Commerce luncheon at the Northwest Arkansas Convention Center last week.
"He (Floyd) has decided since that presentation to not offer support ... No one had told him that beer was going to be sold at the ballpark," said Alan Damron, associate pastor for strategic communications for First Baptist.
Well sure. Cuz you know beer inevitably leads one into committing the ultimate sin.
Dancing.
At least my indifference to the World Cup protects me from this.
I've spent most of the day reading John Scalzi's Old Man's War....one of the best books I've read in a long time.
Now I want the next one in the series.
Former U of A grad student Arwah Jaber has been acquitted of terrorism charges by a federal jury.
A federal court jury Monday found a Fayetteville man not guilty of attempting to provide material support to the recognized terrorist organization, Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
Arwah Jaber was convicted of five lesser charges related to immigration and credit card fraud, however, and he will likely have his citizenship revoked.
There will be a hearing this morning on the government's petition to revoke his citizenship.
This has been a strange case indeed.
Work is proceeding on Fayetteville's new sewer project, which has some residents upset. Are they upset because the project is 3 years overdue and almost $60M over budget? Upset because the city is seeking a 1 cent sales tax increase to cover the increased cost? Which if it fails, sewer bills will increase by an estimated 89%?
Don't be silly. Here's why they're upset.
The removal of a swath of trees from Wildwood Park in west Fayetteville is a sign that the $183 million Wastewater System Improvement Project is moving forward.
Oh noes! Not the trees!
The bulldozers and other heavy equipment that cleared 50-foot wide section through the edge of the park may not have affected the neighbors in the manner that would prompt notification, but it still had an effect on the, Jensen said. "It could give you a heart attack if it was com- ing behind your house," she said of the clearing.
.....
Jensen has lived in the neighborhood for 10 years and walks her dogs through the area that was cleared. The area contained several varieties of hardwood trees and dense vegetation, she said.
Bad scary bulldozer! Now she'll have to let her dogs crap on her own property....or not.
Although the trees have been removed, it would be nice if the area could be made more accessible to neighbors, Jensen said. While the city probably won’t build a trail, it could put down a heavy mulch and make the area more available to the public, she said.
If only they'd asked permission before they cleared their own utility easement. Ever notice how hippies have that communal definition of property, what's theirs is theirs and yours is theirs too.
Especially if there's trees involved.
Software vendor has cavalier attitude towards customer? Only a complete & total noob would be shocked by that.
Sheesh.
A local property owner has been trying to get rezoning approval but was turned down, largely because nearby subdivision residents objected. What's his plan now?
"Let 'em bitch when I put hog houses on it," Gary Howard said Thursday when he learned the Lowell City Council voted 7-0 not to agree to rezone his Bethel Heights property from agricultural to commercial and industrial.
Hehee.
Guess 06/06/06 was luckier for some than others.
Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the Al Qaeda in Iraq leader who led a brutal insurgency that included homicide bombings, kidnappings and beheadings, was killed in an airstrike on a building north of Baghdad, U.S. and Iraqi officials announced Thursday.
Ok, so technically it happened on 06/07/06, but close enough.
A U.S. military official speaking on the condition of anonymity told FOX News that two 500 pound bombs were dropped on the safehouse where Zarqawi was meeting with other Al Qaeda in Iraq associates, including his spiritual advisor.
Day-amn. Blowed him up real good, didn't they?
If you are willing to publicly admit buying any of these listed CD's, you too might be part of the Sony rootkit settlement.
Did anyone really buy any of that crap?
I'm still chugging along. Everything appears to be healing quite nicely. Though as you might imagine, having a deep 6-8" incision down one's spine somewhat limits one's mobility. But I'm doing alright, all things considered. The occupational therapist hooked me up with some cool tools to assist with all the things I can't do on my own, like put on my shoes & socks. Of course, geek that I am, I'm having fun finding all kinds of unintended uses for them.
Thanks to everyone for all the nice comments and encouragement. They mean a lot to me.
Well, time to move back to the comfy chair. More later.
